Is Mexico Safe?

In our travels, we found Mexico to be safe… (and we did not stay in All- Inclusive resorts). We found the locals welcoming with a big heart. You just need to know where you are going and follow basic safety measures.

There are definitely certain parts of Mexico which are considered safer than others. We highly recommend you visit those areas. You can check travel advisories issued by your country before you travel.

How to travel safe

  • It is basic common knowledge to not invite trouble. Be street smart and try to stay off spaces and places which look shady. Petty theft is known to be common in Mexico, but we haven’t had first-hand experience of any.
  • Try to belong with the locals. Carry a warm smile and the locals will truly appreciate it. Trust us on that.
  • You will find military and police roaming the streets or traveling in convoys. Do not get alarmed. The police are there to protect tourists and visitors.

Travel tips

MONEY EXCHANGE: Exchange your currency from downtown markets or official bus stands. It is better to compare current rates from 2-3 places and chose the best. If you wish to withdraw cash, do so from your own bank.

PUBLIC TRANSIT: Public Transport in Mexico is readily available and well connected. You can check the local public transit of the state you visit before you travel. If you travel to Quintana Roo (Cancun or Tulum) ADO bus is a great option for public transit and intercity connections. Here’s our Easy Guide to getting around Cancun in Public Transport.

SPECIAL DAYS: Visit Mexico in end of October to witness Mexican Halloween, followed by All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day. This is a festive time for locals to worship the dead and call upon their ancestors.

GET LOCAL: Support local artists and blend in by participating in local events and activities. It is a lot of fun!

The beautiful Yucatan Peninsula

Yucatan peninsula is a large peninsular region in Southeast Mexico. The historic Mayan civilization was spread across the Yucatan Peninsula. Explore vivid traces of the Mayan ruins and heritage even today.

Visit a natural phenomenon called Cenotes, which are age-old natural sinkholes only found prominently in the amazing Yucatan Peninsula.

Within Yucatan Peninsula is the state of Quintana Roo which is safe, beautiful and overflowing with rich Mexican culture.

Check out our blogs in this page to know more on travel to Quintana Roo and the many amazing destinations in it.
